The Municipality of Gazi Baba is founded on 3rd November 1976.
LOCATION:
The municipality is situated in the northern part of the Republic of
Macedonia located at the eastern part of the Skopje Valley and the City of
Skopje. The larger part of the territory in the central, southwestern and
southern region (65% of the total territory) is a cultivated plain in the
northern part of the municipality (Gazi Baba Forest Park), the central part
(Kamnik), and the eastern part (Skopska Crna Gora).
The municipality of Gazi Baba is bordered by Butel municipality and Chair
municipality to the north, Centar municipality and Aerodrom municipality to the
west, Ilinden municipality and Petrovec municipality to the south, and
Arachinovo municipality and Lipkovo municipality to the east.
CLIMATE:
The City of Skopje and the municipality of Gazi Baba experience a
Mediterranean and a moderately continental climate. The winters are cold, wet
and humid, while the summers are hot and dry.
The annual average air temperature is +12.2°C. The annual absolute minimum
air temperature is -22.2°C, whereas the annual absolute maximum air temperature
is +40°C.
The average annual relative humidity is 70%.
The average annual number of sunny days is 70, as oppose to 107 cloudy days.
The average annual rainfall amount is 516.1mm per square meter. The average
annual number of days with precipitation is 112, including 81 days of fog and
0.6 days of frost.
Povardarec (a northern wind blowing down the Vardar Valley), Yugo (a southern
wind), and the northwest wind are specific for the territory of Skopje and the
municipality of Gazi Baba.
Povardarec blows from the Shar Mountains along the Vardar River towards the
southern parts of the Republic of Macedonia. It is dry during the summer, and
wet during autumn and winter.
Yugo, the south wind blows from the opposite direction of Povardarec. It is
warm and often followed by rain.
The wind that blows from Kachanik towards Skopje along the Lepenec River
Valley is similar to Povardarec.
The average wind speed is a maximum of 29-30 km/h, an average of 14-21 km/h
and a minimum of 1-5 km/h.
AREA:
The municipality has a total area of 92 km². The majority of it is rural,
that is, 65% of cultivated land out of the whole area.
Demographics:
According to the 2002 census, there are 72.222 inhabitants, making the
municipality one of the largest municipalities in Skopje and the Republic of
Macedonia.
Ethnic groups in the municipality include:
73.3 % Macedonians, 17.3 % Albanians, 2.9 % Serbs, 2.9 % Roma, 0.8 % Turks,
0.3 % Vlachs and others 1.3 %.
Average Age:
The average age of the population in the municipality of Gazi Baba is 35.4,
27.4 % up to 20 years of age, 58.6 % up to 40 years of age, 14.4 % up to 60
years of age and more.
The Municipality of Gazi Baba is an industrial, educational and communication
center in the City of Skopje.
There are four faculties of the State University “Ss. Cyril and Methodius”, a
private FON University, 11 elementary schools, a school for children with
special needs, five state high schools and a private Yahya Kemal school,
dormitories, a private hospital, two polyclinics, dozens of primary health care
centers, pharmacies, bank branches and post offices.
The municipality of Gazi Baba is the largest industrial zone in Skopje and
the Republic of Macedonia, creating a third of the GDP of the country.
According to the records of the Central Registry of Macedonia, there are over
5.066 registered businesses at the municipality’s territory.
GAZI BABA municipality is a communication and transport gateway, along which
all transport and communication corridors are passing, making the City of Skopje
an economic, administrative and social center of the entire country.
Gazi Baba municipality is a communication center of the international traffic
and transport corridors No. 8 and 10, making the city a dynamic local and
regional economic center.
A significant part (10 km) of the Skopje Ring Road is passing through the
municipality of Gazi Baba.
“Alexander the Great” Airport is within 15 km distance.
